As a teenager you are forced to live up to the expectations of the people around you. This requires many of us to dress a certain way, act a certain way, and look a certain way. Every now and then we will be lucky enough to run into people who do not bother with these requirements and ask only that you be yourself and they will love you for it. But there are still other people around us that will judge everything we do and especially the way we look. That is why it can be hard for many of us with acne to go into the world and face people. People who suffer from severe cases of acne often have face acne scars despite the fact that the acne has healed. There are many different types of face acne scars that are caused for different reasons. Most of the scars are caused by a loss of facial tissue or by an increase in the facial tissue.
Too Much Facial Tissue
There are two scars that have been created by the increase of tissue that has formed on the face; hypertrophy and keloids. Both of these type of scars are caused by the over production of collagen. The collagen is working overtime to make up for the harm that is being done to the skin cells. When there is too much being produced it will create a fibrous mass that will have an irregular shape and will become a scar. Keloid and hypertophic face acne scars are usually 1 to 2 millimeters in diameter - but they can be slightly larger at times. These scars can last for many years - but they do have the ability to grow smaller over that time period.
Loss Of Facial Tissue
The majority of face acne scars are caused by when facial tissue has been lost. These scars are very similar to the type caused by chicken pox and are some of the more commonly found in people who suffer from severe acne.
Ice-Pick Face Acne Scars
These face acne scars will usually be found on a person’s cheek. They can be small in size and are identified by the jagged edge and steep sides. They can be shallow or deep and either soft or hard.
Depressed Fibrotic Face Acne Scars
These type of face acne scars are some of the largest and also can be identified by their steep edges. Over time these scars were once ice pick scars and became depressed fibrotic.
Soft Face Acne Scars
These face acne scars are soft and can be identified by the rolling edges that connect to the normal looking skin. They are usually small in size and in the shape of a small circle.
Atrophic Macules Face Acne Scars
These type of face acne scars are also small in size. They have a wrinkled base and can be identified by the bluish color that they have. This color is caused by the blood vessels located underneath them. Over time this color will diminish and become white.
